Roberto Carlos Lange Announces New Album Sealess See Under Epstein Moniker

Epstein

We discovered the diverse sounds of Roberto Carlos Lange last year, but that was at least a couple of aliases ago. The Ecuadorian-American producer is a master of sound texture and his eclectic style has gotten him collaborations with musicians of every persuasion. Last time we wrote about him, he had done a collabo with dream-pop outfit Seven Bells, and it was some pretty experimental stuff.

Under the moniker Epstein, Lange will release his latest album, Sealess See. For this project, Lange follows his format of found sound arranged to have a global feel, running the gamut between Latin grooves, world music, and funky, static-y rhythms in the vein of past collaborator Scott Herren (Prefuse 73, Savath & Savalas, Delarosa and Asora). Check out a track from Sealess See below.

Prefuse 73/Jaytram/Epstein

Speaking of Prefuse 73, there’s a recent album you should check out if you’ve got a hankering for the abstract ambience of these artists. At the tail end of 2010, Prefuse 73 and Jaytram split an album on which each of them remixed a bunch of tracks from Epstein’s catalog. If you’re used to the mostly straightforward beat work on Herren’s projects like Piano Overlord, be prepared for something a little more noise-oriented. Most of the tracks are something you’ll scratch your head to as opposed to bobbing it. Hear one of the tracks below.
