Kutmah Makes Magnificent Mistakes on The New Error 2

Kutmah made The New Error once, and now he’s set to glitch things up once again.

The New Error Volume 2 will drop in May, featuring unreleased beats from Madlib, Flying Lotus, Jeremiah Jae, Mono/Poly, Shlohmo, James Blake, Broadcast, Mr. Oizo, whew!!

There are a few more, but I ran out of breath, so you’ll just have to listen to the minimix below.

The New Error compilations come out in conjunction with Kutmah’s art project Two Soups & A Honeybun, a travelling collection of drawings Kutmah created while he was detained in a prison in the United States just before being deported.

Currently in the UK, Kutmah is prolific. There are two more volumes on The New Error coming this year.

Stay tuned for these magnificent mistakes.

Still In Exile, Kutmah Mixes Madlib's Unreleased Works

Scottish-Egyptian producer Kutmah remains in exile in the UK, and he’s still getting mad work done there. Just a couple of days ago, he posted a 49 minute Sketchbook mix of Madlib’s unreleased instrumentals that he made on his birthday earlier this month.

This collection of beats encompasses the many personalities of Madlib, from his golden-age-sounding jazz sampled beats to his caricatures of mainstream production, and everything in between. That includes a couple of minutes of weird noise repetition and the incorporation of really odd soul lyrics on a few beats.

The selections are all of typical Madlib quality, and Kutmah does a nice job of mixing them. Press play below when you’ve got a free hour to bob your head.

Egyptian-Scottish Producer Kutmah Spends His Time in Exile Well

2010 was a hell of a year for Kutmah.

The New Error is out now.

This past summer, the Scottish-Egyptian producer was forcibly taken from his home in LA, detained, then deported to the UK for not having his citizen papers in order. Though it was a dark time for the man himself, his friends turned out to be the silver lining, and he’s got some pretty interesting friends…who happen to be some of LA’s finest producers.

They organized a Free Kutmah benefit show headlined by none other than the godfather of weird instrumental hip hop, Daedelus. Teebs, Samiyam, Gaslamp Killer, Dam-Funk and a few others joined him in an effort to bring Kutmah back to his rightful home. It totally didn’t work. Kutmah remains living and working in the UK.

But it’s not all bad! Kutmah used his time in detention well, creating a series of drawings called Two Soups and a Honeybun, perhaps referring to his daily meal allowance while being held. These are now up for exhibition now in London. In conjunction with this show, he also dropped the first mix of a three part series called The New Error, a blend packed with beats by MF DOOM, Madlib, J-Dilla, Flying Lotus, Portishead, Mr. Oizo, and a whole bunch more.

That…is some freaking list. Apparently a sudden and rude change of scenery is not enough to stifle his taste for music or his creative process. Instead, it seems to have fueled it.

Check out The New Error Vol. 1 sampler below, and to our London readers, check out this art show at Protein.
