DJ Chris Menist Digs Up Buried Treasure in Thailand

Chris Menist went to Thailand for records and found more than he bargained for. The British DJ spends his time traveling to countries of the world where vinyl can be found in caches in shops, homes, and storage spaces. Upon reaching Thailand, Menist found so much black gold that he paused and stayed in there to unearth forgotten releases and compile the best music on them into mixes.

The newest of these compilations just dropped. Paradise Bangkok is a collection of favorite’s from Menist’s DJ night of the same name. In addition to some classic Thai jams, the mix has songs from Jamaica, Benin, Ethiopia, Yemen, and more. It was all rediscovered and selected by Menist, and it’s all music that’s getting a second chance to make a sound.

It seems Menist is obsessed with the sounds concealed in his current surroundings and will not rest until he’s explored every nook of Thailand’s hidden record stockpiles. That makes him a man to follow.
