Mauritian Mo Kolours Rocks Sega, Plays No Games
“Sega music” is not a sub-genre under 8bit, thought it might sound that way at first. It’s the indigenous music of the Macarene Islands of Mauritius, Reunion, Rodrigues and Cardagos Carajos.
Half of Mo Kolours ancestry hails from the island of Mauritius, where Sega originated. He brings the tradition into the modern age by fusing Sega with dub, soul, and beats.
His debut release EP1: Drum Talking is due out next month, and the single off the record is a smooth beat made hypnotic by Sega singing that loops around and around until you can’t tell front from back. Over the beat, Mo recites a simple poem and drenches his voice with echo. Hear below.
