Bands We Like: Glasgow Gets Down to the Ageless Hip Hop Sounds of Dema
Yeah, Glasgow parties.
And a lot of that party factor is driven by bass heavy music a lot like what Dema used to spin at the Glasgow School of Art in a duo called The Freakmenoovers.
They would drop classic hip hop acapellas over womp-womp bass music, nice and slow and grinding like.
As a solo artist, Dema carries on the tradition. He’s a sought after club DJ for the simple fact that he gets girls on the dancefloor. Girls on the dancefloor gets guys on the dancefloor. Dema’s music plus girls and guys together on the dancefloor equals crazy good time. It’s simple math, really.
Dema is to Glasgow what Luckyme labelmate Lunice is to Montreal: a kid with mad beats and an ear for hip hop that is not limited by an era.
New school, old school, radio, underground, whatever the sound, if it’s good it’s laid down.
