Upcoming EP Simon & G-Funk from BC, Canada's Monolithium
Please continue to have great young producers that come onto our radar and prompt us to turn up the volume on our headphones.
Error Broadcast, the collective that brought to light our favorite Russians and Easter Europeans like Pixelord and Montgomery Clunk, just recruited a kid from British Columbia who’s contributing high levels of bass to the airwaves in Canada.
Monolithium names Wu, J Dilla, and Pete Rock as his chief influences, but the stuff he makes is only hip hop in part.
Like his contemporaries Lunice, Shash’u, and Kenlo Craqnuques, Monolithium strays from the organic roots of sample based hip hop and goes extra heavy on synth noise. This stuff is ripe for a headphone listen, but according to the man himself, “all of these tunes were made with the dancefloor in mind, so that is where they will come to life.”
His next release is an EP called Simon & G-Funk, and it’s out on Error Broadcast real soon. In the meantime, have a listen to some heat from Monolithium below.
