A Little Preview of Amon Tobin's Upcoming Album ISAM

Checking out the Ninja Tune site today, my usual perusal of the front page was obscured by a deconstructed zombie dog and eerie music. That’s right. New Amon Tobin album on the way. Due date: 5.23.11

ISAM is Tobin’s first full length work since 2007’s Foley Room, which saw him further exploring theatrical music, using only field recordings in its production. His music has always had the quality of painting a scene purely through sound, but as he matures, his tracks get artsier and better produced.

So don’t expect a story as straightforward as “Escape.” It’s also unlikely that you’ll hear DJ mix-friendly jams like the famed “Sordid” and “Four Ton Mantis.”

The little preview snippet (hear below), is open for interpretation. You start at an abandoned carnival, suddenly surrounded by wind chimes in a church turret, lighting matches without success, rooting around in the circuitry of a giant, gothic machine, sparks flying, jump to walking through snowy streets and hearing Christmas carolers as a helicopter hovers overhead.

That’s what I heard, anyway. What do you hear?
