LA's Free The Robots Is Taking Over Your Mainframe
Free at last!
Santa Ana, California’s Chris Alfaro just wants to Free The Robots, and his forthcoming album Ctrl Alt Delete is the soundtrack to what will happen when our android brethren are cut loose. Free The Robots makes a sound in the vein of other instrumental hip hop coming out of LA these days. He’s performed with the likes of Daedelus and Nosaj Thing.
In his music, you can hear the same freedom that Flying Lotus produces with. It’s glitchy, then it’s rock, then it’s heavy, then it’s hip hop. His beats don’t have the same Dilla-pioneered choppiness inherent in hip hop production of today, yet he stays abstract with weird voice samples and thick stews of synth sound.
Free The Robots is gearing up for a tour that will take him through Europe and back. Paris, Berlin, Zurich, and Luxembourg will all get a dose of mechanical liberation. The album is due out at the end of March, when Alfaro will personally upload Skynet and end the world.
