New Album from Paris' Only Irish Afrobeat Rocker
The L stands for… wait, what does the L stand for? Oh, right. Liam.
Doctor L moved his game from Ireland to Paris to find an affinity for Afrobeat. Not exactly a conventional come up. But since the late 90s, he’s proven his proficiency with syncopation in a psychedelic way, lending his production talents to the likes of Tony Allen.
The Doctor recently dropped his newest album Open Windows, and it sounds like the title is a metaphor, because that’s exactly what he’s flying out of.
Open Windows uses a lot of familiar rhythms of Afrobeat influence, this time taking them in all directions rock. His pained, strained singing voice is echoed to new degrees, and there’s enough effects to give you the spins dead sober.
