Bands We Like: Native London Soul Singer Andreya Triana

Since Animal Magic became one of the standards for the new sound of down-tempo, Bonobo’s super-chilled instrumental production has been begging for some soulful vocals. Finally, his beats are getting blessed by Ninja Tunes newest vocalist Andreya Triana.

We recently heard a remix of Andreya’s “Far Closer” by one of our favorites, TOKiMONSTA, but keep in mind that the singer’s album, fully produced by Bonobo, has a much more organic feel to it. The difference is that, though his solo albums are soft and dreamlike, his production for Andreya sees him moving in a neo soul direction. The proof is in Andreya’s 2010 debut, Lost Where I Belong.

As for Andreya, she’s got a big voice that she’s been honing since the tender age of seven. Of the army of great young soul singers that are emerging from the UK these days, she’s one that got picked up by Ninja Tune, and therefore gets a lot of dope remixes of her work. In addition to the cut by TOKiMONSTA, “Lost Where I Belong” has been remixed by Flying Lotus, Mr. Scruff, and Mala.

Right now, Andreya is on tour through Europe, so if you happen to be in any of these towns in the next couple of weeks, be sure to see her play.
