New Heat from Swiss Producer Dimlite
What a funky mess.
Swiss producer Dimlite just dropped a short release on Now Again entitled My Human Wears Acedia Shreds. If there’s anything Swiss about this music, it’s not its neutrality but rather its chocolatiness. It’s a collection of four beats that are shaped like glitch but use sounds that are organic, or at least make you feel like they are organic. Voices, funked out guitars, a handful of beeps and some hard, hard drum sounds come together for positively undanceable music that will nestle up in your headphones and lick your eardrums.
Dimlite first started getting widespread attention as part of Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollectiv and has since dropped a couple of releases that follow the trend of cloudy, beaty drip hop that has hip hop heads so enthralled these days. Let me state plainly: If you like Flying Lotus (who Dimlite remixed on the third installment of the LA EP series), Tokimonsta, Madlib, J Dilla…you get the picture…you’ll dig this. It’s stop and go and it never really hands you the beat nice and clean on a platter. It’s music you have to work to enjoy, and if that’s your bag, this is your bag. It’s totally my bad. Bboom…B-b-b-bap…bboom ba-boom…b-b-b BAP! Just like that.
